Workplace Relations Commission

The Workplace Relations Commission, as a designated Market Surveillance Authority under the AI Act, supervises the deployment and usage of AI Systems in the Irish labour market. It monitors algorithms and AI tools deployed in functions involving employment, worker management or access to self-employment.

The AI Act prohibits the deployment of certain systems, such as those that infer employee emotions on the basis of their biometric data in the workplace and empowers the WRC to enforce these restrictions. The WRC will also be required to carry out market surveillance on AI tools used in employment, worker management or access to self-employment such as recruitment algorithms that are permitted but categorised as high-risk requiring monitoring.
