Health and Safety Authority

The Health and Safety Authority has been designated as one of the market surveillance authorities under the EU AI Act with responsibility for AI Safety Systems for six of the union harmonised legal instruments listed in Section A, Annex I of the AI Act.

The following are the six union instruments relevant to the Authority:

1. Directive 2006/42/EC, as regards machinery and machinery products used in the workplace

2. Directive 2014/33/EU; lifts and safety components for lifts

3. Directive 2014/34/EU; products for explosive atmospheres (ATEX)

4. Directive 2014/68/EU; pressure equipment

5. Regulation (EU) 2016/425, insofar as it relates to personal protective equipment in the workplace); and

6. Regulation (EU) 2016/426, insofar as it relates to non-domestic appliances burning gaseous fuels
