Coimisiún na Meán is Ireland’s agency for developing and regulating a thriving, diverse, creative, safe and trusted media landscape.
Coimisiún na Meán has been designated a Market Surveillance Authority under the AI Act and will supervise the compliance of certain categories of operators with their obligations, relating to prohibited practices as set out in Articles 5(1)(a) and 5(1)(b) and transparency obligations as set out Article 50, including:
Intermediary services;
Audiovisual media services;
Sound broadcasting services;
Relevant online services designated under section 139E of the Broadcasting Act 2009; and
Hosting services.
Coimisiún na Meán has also been identified as a Fundamental Rights Authority for the purposes of Article 77 of the AI Act.
