The NTA, post transposition, will be designated to act as the Market Surveillance Authority (MSA) for high-risk AI systems under the EU AI Act, intended for use by critical entities in the management and operation of road traffic, per entry 2(d) of the Schedule to the Regulations of 2024. This covers:
(i) road authorities responsible for traffic-management control, excluding entities for whom this is a non-essential activity; and
(ii) operators of Intelligent Transport Systems as defined in Directive 2010/40/EU.
The NTA will monitor compliance, manage queries on non-conformities, and coordinate with providers and deployers within its scope.
